First Holy Quran memorization competition organised by Saudi held in Sri Lanka

The first Holy Quran memorization competition was held at the Sri Lankan Ministry of Religions recently.

The event was organized by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, in coordination with the Kingdom’s Embassy in Sri Lanka and in cooperation with the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs (DMRCA).

Nearly 1,500 students of both genders participated in the competition in eight branches, and 240 from Arabic schools and Quran memorization centers qualified for the finals.

Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, attended the ceremony honouring the winners on Monday at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.

Khalid Hamoud Alkahtani, the ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka, and Vidura Wickremanayake, the minister of Buddhashasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs, were also present.
