The Tripitaka edition for Buddha Jayanti, which has been designated a national treasure, will be translated into English and made available online by the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs.
Measures would also be taken, according to Minister Vidura Wickramanayake, to print the book series later.
According to him, this choice was made after taking into account the interests of both clergy and laypeople who are interested in studying the Tripitaka both locally and abroad.
According to the ministry, this programme won’t begin unless the Mahanayake Theros’ opinion and approval are obtained.
