Several trains are anticipated to be cancelled today morning (24), according to the Department of Railways, as a result of a trade union strike started by the engine drivers’ union.
Last night (March 23), a group of engine drivers started a trade union protest against the Railway Department’s plans to launch a number of additional train services.
Around 21 train trips were cancelled yesterday as a result, according to N.J. Indipolage, the Department of Railways’ Deputy General Manager (Traffic).
Further commenting, Indipolage said that around 11 office train services scheduled to run today morning will be cancelled, leading to the cancellation of 5 trains on the main line, 1 train on the Puttalam line, and another train on the Northern Railway Line.
