19 people caught illegally fishing in the waters off Kokkilai in Pulmoddai by the Sri Lanka Navy.
Tuesday’s operation was led by SLNS Ranweli in the Eastern Naval Command, and the Navy also seized four dinghies and illegal fishing equipment.
According to the navy, those who were caught were employing industrial explosives while fishing.
The people detained in this operation were revealed to be locals of Pulmoddai, Nilaveli, and Kuchchaveli who fell and ranged in age from 18 to 49.
They have been given to Mullaitivu’s Fisheries Inspector for further legal action.
