This week, the Ministry of Agriculture received 8,360 metric tonnes of urea fertiliser from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for distribution during the upcoming Maha planting season.

This has been made possible, according to the FAO, thanks to financing from the Japanese government.

More than 228,000 smallholder paddy farmers in Sri Lanka’s dry and intermediate zones will receive the crucial fertiliser, which will boost productivity and improve the country’s smallholder paddy farmers’ resilience.

Smallholder paddy farmers in the Kurunegala, Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa districts are the focus of the aid.
