The Government Radiological Technologists Association (GRTA) has issued a warning that there is a chance that government hospitals’ ability to provide testing services including CT scans, MRIs, and PET scans is about to crumble in the coming months.
The association’s president, Chanaka Dharmawickrema, emphasised that the provision of these services has become challenging due to the persistent scarcity of radiological technologists.
Additionally, he claimed that despite being alerted about the situation, the Ministry of Health has not yet started the process of hiring replacement personnel.
“In the upcoming months, catheterization units at cardiology departments, CT scanning, MRIs, and PET scanning and radiology services at operating rooms in the government hospital system may collapse.”
