A power pole fell on a Dehiwala Zoological Garden employee, killing him on Tuesday night (Aug. 15).
According to sources, a big tree in front of the zoo’s animal hospital suddenly fell over, colliding with a utility pole, which subsequently fell on a passing employee.
The 54-year-old was taken for quick medical care to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila, but he passed away there as a result of his injuries.
The dead was identified as Upul Senarath, the zoo’s head security officer.
