Susil Premajayantha, minister of education, says measures would be implemented to adapt the preschool education system to meet international standards.
Joining a Colombo event, he announced that preschool teachers who lack sufficient qualifications will also receive official training, adding that the required arrangements for training will be made soon.
The Minister stated that children who get various types of preschool education are enrolled in grade 1 at school, which helped to explain the unevenness in the quality of the nation’s preschool education. “and one preschool focuses on activity-based learning, another teaches counting up to 10, and a third teaches counting up to 100. But all of these kids start first grade, he said.
