The inaugural Kumbal Perahera will parade through the streets of Kandy Thursday evening (Aug. 21) to kick off the Sri Dalada Esala Perahera of the Scared Temple of Tooth Relic.
The Kumbal Perahera will last till August 25, while the first Randoli Perahera will start on August 26 and last for five days, ending on August 30.
Following the water-cutting ceremony at the Mahaweli River in Getambe on August 31, the Kandy Esala celebration will come to a close.
After the Nilames and the Diyawadana Nilame of the Temple of the Tooth Relic, Pradeep Nilanga Dela, give the Sannasa (Scroll) to the President, the Esala Festival for this year will formally come to a close.
