Over 51,000 acres of paddy land destroyed by drought – Agri. Ministry

The Agriculture Ministry reported today (August 23) that as of August 22, 51,055 acres of paddy field had been completely damaged by the ongoing drought.

A statement from the government claims that crop losses have occurred on 51,479 cultivated hectares nationwide.

The most recent report published by the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board assessing the crop damages, which was delivered to Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera today, made reference of this.

According to the data, there are 46,072 farmers who are affected by the dry weather, and 45,678 of them are paddy farmers.
