The meningococcal vaccination, which is used to prevent meningitis, has been in short supply in government hospitals for about a year, according to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. This is a severe problem because meningitis is currently on the rise in the Galle prison.

He informed the legislature that Hajj travellers also required the meningococcal vaccine.

The Opposition Leader raised an oral question in accordance with Standing Order 27/2, stating that it has been reported that the World Health Organisation (WHO) provided a stock of meningococcal vaccination but that the Health Ministry has failed to clear the stock with Customs.

The questions posed by the Opposition Leader would be addressed at a later time, according to Health Minister Keheliya Rambuwella.
