In order to represent a green Saudi Arabia, Saudi environmental activist Khulood Al-Fadli used plastic bottle caps to create the largest mural in history, which has now been placed into the Guinness Book of World Records. The artwork, which is 383 square meters in size, was created using 500,000 plastic bottle tops.

The Saudi teacher who aims protect the environment by reusing and decreasing plastic, was assisted in her efforts by the students of Green Leaves School over the course of eight months.

In 2021, Al-Fadli registered the “Making a Map of the World Using Plastic Covers” initiative, which was established with the Ministry of Sports as part of Jeddah’s efforts to conserve the environment. The record-breaking 250-square-meter world map was created using 350,000 plastic bottle caps.

The certificate recognizing Al-Fadli’s record was presented during a special event at the Jeddah Corniche, attended by officials from Guinness World Records and the Jeddah Municipality, as well as members of her family, school, and community.

As part of a community initiative, the school children, family, friends, and an increasing number of plastic bottle cap contributors helped collect the plastic caps for the mural. The caps were polished, placed, and given final touches.

Students who assisted Al-Fadli in making the mosaic mural and gained knowledge about the value of recycling plastic in the process. After it was finished, Al-Fadli, the principal of the school, took the kids to see the mural. The artist outlined the various environmental sustainability initiatives that the kids take part in, such as beach cleanups and park landscaping. They also contributed to the global map that broke records in 2021.
