By the end of 2023, the Ministry of Finance’s representatives plan to remove all import restrictions save for those pertaining to personal automobiles.
The Parliamentary Communications Department reported that the officials made this statement in response to a question from the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) on how long such limits would remain in effect after taking into account the duopolies they have brought about, particularly in the wheat flour and tile industries.
Dr. Harsha de Silva presided over the COPF discussion, which took place yesterday (Sept. 5) at the parliamentary complex.
