CBSL emphasizes economic importance of Sri Lanka dealing with BRICS nations

The Sectoral Oversight Committee (SOC) on International Relations has been informed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) that collaboration with the BRICS nations is crucial for Sri Lanka’s economic development.

On Tuesday (05), the Central Bank representatives who were present at the SOC meeting presided over by MP Namal Rajapaksa noted that the BRICS countries account for 24% of the global gross domestic product (GDP), 41% of the world’s population, and 16% of all global trade activities.

The Central Bank representatives also noted that working with BRICS nations is crucial economically because in 2022, BRICS countries accounted for 10.3% of Sri Lanka’s exports and 47.3% of its imports.
