Following the initiation of a trade union protest earlier today by railway yard workers in the Colombo region, several train operations are likely to be halted throughout the day today (Sept. 11).
trains set to depart from the pertinent railway yards won’t run until the issue is fixed.
The Locomotive Engineers’ Union is also planning to go on strike tomorrow, September 12th.
The union explained their choice by stating that the strike will be called in protest of a number of important demands, including changes to the hiring procedure and promotions, which have been put off for over five years despite their repeated requests.
