Dr. AH Gulnar Begum, an Ayurvedic doctor in Puttalam, retires

Dr. A.H. Gulnar Begum is an Ayurvedic physician from Puttalam. Of her 27 1/2 years of service, 23 1/2 years at the Puttalam Ayurvedic Hospital were a special feature of her service.

When she joined there in 1998, it was a central dispensary with only an Out Patient Department (OPD) staffed by one doctor and one staff member. She made continuous efforts to upgrade it as a hospital. Following her request in 2004, the former North-West Province Health Minister M.H.M.Nawavi upgraded the Central Dispensary to a hospital.

As a result, 20 beds for men and women as well as a separate ward for women were opened. All the furniture required was supported by Minister Navavi.

Also, due to the efforts and requests of Dr. Gulnar Begum, with the help of the Ayurvedic Commissioner of North Western Province, Dr. Anura Senaviratne, financial and manpower allocations were made available and the existing deficiencies were addressed.Kitchen, doctor’s lounge and office room were newly constructed.
Currently, 12 Doctors and 16 Minor Staff including Community Medical Officers are serving there which is proof of Dr. Gulnar Begum’s dedicated service and administrative management.

Not only that
She also took steps to provide services like Special Clinics, Skin, Orthopedic, Cupping, Leach Therapy, N.C.D Clinic there.

Finally 6 years ago she was promoted as Medical officer Incharge of Puttalam Ayurvedic Hospital.

Thus, Dr. Gulnar Begum, who has quietly rendered great service for more than two decades, will retire 3 months early from 12.09.2023 and permanently retire from service from 01.12.2023.

Dr. Gulnar Begum Puttalam is an inseparable multifaceted personality of Ayurveda Hospital.
