The Sri Lanka Navy greeted the Indian Naval Ship (INS) ‘Nireekshak’ in accordance with naval custom when it arrived at the Trincomalee harbour this morning (Sept. 14) for an official visit.
With a crew of 13, INS ‘Nireekshak’ is a 70.5 m long diving support vessel under the leadership of Commander Jeet Singh Chauhan.
At the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters this morning, the ship’s commanding officer spoke with Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva, commander of the Eastern Naval Area.
The crew of the ship will participate in a number of programmes during its stay with the aim of fostering goodwill and cooperation between the two navies. Other activities on the itinerary include diving training exercises with the Sri Lanka Navy Diving Unit, a health camp for the Trincomalee community, and visits to some of the nation’s tourist attractions.
According to the Sri Lanka Navy, the ship is scheduled to leave the island on September 21.
