On Friday, September 22, the parliament accepted a resolution that Ali Sabri Raheem, a member of parliament, be suspended from serving as a committee representative.
Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, introduced the motion this morning in parliament. He claimed that MP Sabri’s continued representation of parliamentary committees despite his recent involvement in illegal misconduct has raised questions and produced a problematic situation in relation to the conduct of lawmakers generally.
As a result, the Parliament decided that MP Sabri, who is presently the subject of an inquiry by the Parliamentary Committee on Ethics and Privileges, should refrain from serving on any committees until the investigation is complete.
