According to the Department of Railways, India will send close to 20 train engines to Sri Lanka.
The department did add, though, that India has indicated a willingness to give Sri Lanka the decommissioned locomotives as it transitions to the use of electric trains.
Additionally, the Department of Railways has made the decision to send a technical team to India soon to determine if the locomotives are appropriate for use in Sri Lankan operations.
A final choice regarding whether or not to admit the locomotives into the country would be made later.
