A Russian couple arrived in Sri Lanka today (Sept. 26), marking the country’s one millionth visitor for 2023, according to Sri Lanka Tourism.

As a result, the couple’s arrival on an Oman Airlines flight was a crucial turning point for the nation’s tourism economy.

Over 88,000 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka in just the first 24 days of September, adding to the total for the year.

This accomplishment follows overcoming a number of difficulties that had an impact on the nation’s tourism industry, including as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Easter Sunday bombings, and an unheard-of economic crisis.
