Recently, Tharushi Karunarathna of Sri Lanka won the gold medal in the women’s 800 metre race at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
The 19-year-old won the gold medal in the women’s 800 metre race at the 2023 Asian Games with a time of 2.03.20 minutes.
Karunarathna therefore made history for Sri Lanka by winning the nation’s first athletics gold medal since 2002.
Earlier, the Sri Lankan sprinter finished the race in 2:00:06 minutes, breaking both the Asian and national records at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.
