The Sri Lanka Railways has announced that all railway assistant guards’ leaves have been terminated immediately.
The General Manager of Railways announced that everyone who is scheduled to work today, October 5, has been instructed to report to work before noon.
After an assistant guard was allegedly assaulted by a security guard at the Maligawatta railway yard, railway assistant guards went on an unscheduled strike on Wednesday (04 Oct.), disrupting train operation.
To preserve peace and security in this environment, security forces personnel had been stationed at railway stations as of last night. However, there were reports of heated situations because passengers were furious over the trade union activities.
