Following a fruitful dialogue with the appropriate authorities, railway under-guards have ended their strike.
Participants in the conversation, which took place this morning (5 Oct.), included representatives of the Ceylon Railway Guards’ Union and other railway unions, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, the state minister of transportation, and Sri Lanka Railway staff.
The railway department is striving to resume normal train operations this evening now that the trade union action has ended.
The under-guards, who were on sick leave due to an assault incident, have reportedly started reporting for work.
The railway department ordered all railway under-guards to report to work by noon today after cancelling their leaves with immediate effect earlier this morning.
