Malaysia to support Sri Lanka’s entry into RCEP

During talks with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees in Colombo today (09), Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato Seri Diraja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir stated that Malaysia would support Sri Lanka’s application to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

The Malaysian Minister pledged Sri Lanka’s full support and said, “Sri Lanka belongs to our region.” The Prime Minister claimed that Sri Lanka’s participation in RCEP would improve its economic connectedness within the larger South East Asian region. According to the PM’s Office, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s alignment with ASEAN’s future plans for the Indo-Pacific region and pledged full support for the advancement of this economic viewpoint.
