Today (11 October), at the opening of the National Information Technology and Business Process Management Professional (IT & BPM) Exhibition at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Hall, President Ranil Wickremesinghe paved the way for the private sector to actively participate in the country’s transition to a technology-driven and environmentally conscious green economy.
The expo, which will kick off National IT and BPM Week, will take place from October 11 to October 13 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial expo Hall in Colombo.
The exhibition seeks to offer insights into cutting-edge technology, encourage skill development, provide career assistance, and open doors for IT entrepreneurship in an effort to hasten Sri Lanka’s transition to a digital economy. It is anticipated that it will help Western Province schoolchildren, college students, vocational education candidates, job seekers, and aspirant business owners.
Technical school institutions will provide possibilities for industry and career advising, internships, job placements, and training on IT and business processes as part of this three-day event.
President Wickremesinghe emphasised in his speech the desire of many exhibition guests to pursue chances overseas. He pushed for a shift in emphasis to include how the event will benefit the country. The President emphasised the significance of not only establishing economic stability but also taking care of loan repayment and meeting import obligations, all of which necessitate foreign exchange reserves that can require new loans.
The President emphasised the need to escape the debt cycle and transition to a fiercely competitive economy that can succeed in the global economy. The intention is to increase revenue sources through both goods and services in the hopes that doing so will entice Sri Lankans who have emigrated back to their homeland. The three-pronged approach of developing a competitive economy, encouraging a sustainable green economy, and growing the digital economy is essential to this change. Notably, the digital economy needs a staff that is knowledgeable about information technology.
