On Saturday, October 14, 2023, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that ferry service between India and Sri Lanka will improve connectivity, encourage trade, and strengthen the already strong ties between the two nations.
He added that during the recent visit of Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, they jointly adopted a vision statement for the economic collaboration between the two nations in his message presented electronically during the flag-off event of the ferry service from India’s Nagapattinam to Sri Lanka.
According to PM Modi, “Connectivity is the central theme of this partnership.”
“Great poet Subramania Bharati speaks of a bridge connecting our two nations—India and Sri Lanka—in his song Sindhu Nadhiyin Misai. All those historical and cultural linkages come to life thanks to this ferry service, the prime minister remarked.
“Our goal of connectedness extends beyond the transportation industry. Fintech and energy are only two examples of the many fields where India and Sri Lanka work closely together, Mr. Modi added.
