Based on a recommendation made by the inquiry committee following “careful evaluation of Gunathilaka’s acquittal and with due consideration to his cricketing career and its impact on the cricketing ambitions of the nations,” the decision was made by the national cricket board’s Executive Committee on October 13.
The inquiry committee was tasked with looking into how the criminal accusations made against Gunathilaka in Australia affected that country. It was led by Sisira Ratnayake, a retired High Court judge, and included attorneys Niroshana Perera and Asela Ranawaka.
