The provision of electricity and its related services, the supply or distribution of petroleum products and fuel, and the provision of healthcare services have all been designated as essential services in a special gazette announcement.
On Tuesday, October 17, Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake released a statement in accordance with instructions from President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
According to the President’s authority granted by Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act No. 61 of 1979, the communiqué was released.
The declaration was made via a Gazette Extraordinary that was released on September 17, 2023, one month before to the announcement.
