According to Kanchana Wijesekera, minister of power and energy, Surath Ovitigama has been named chairman of the Petroleum Development Authority. He is an expert in the energy sector.
Speaking to ‘X’, Minister Wijesekera said Surath Ovitigama is a professional in the energy industry with more than 20 years of worldwide experience. He has worked in the UK, the Norwegian North Sea oil and gas sector, and South East Asia.
Prior to his new position, Surath Ovitigama held the position of Director General of the Petroleum Development Authority since 2020, according to Minister Wijesekera.
The minister said, “He will be responsible for accelerating and implementing the development and regulation of offshore energy resources, oil and gas exploration, and drawing up the national policies, roadmap, and legal and safety framework for the production, use, and export of green hydrogen.
