Through a joint statement released by seven Tamil political parties, it has been claimed that a Hartal campaign has been started across the Northern and Eastern provinces today , calling for justice for Mullaitivu District Judge T. Saravanarajah, who resigned from his office over alleged death threats.
According to sources, the relevant parties are concurrently using the Hartal movement to distribute the land plots utilised by Tamil national dairy farmers to the Sinhala community while also contesting the building of new Buddhist temples in the Northern and Eastern regions.
It is said that, despite the Hartal movement, Vavuniya District students have continued to attend class as long as the term tests are still being administered.
The relevant public institutions are likewise doing business as usual.
