Sri Lankans living close to Israel have been asked to hold off on crossing any borders illegally at this time.
Due to the intensifying crisis between Israel and Palestine, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) submitted the request.
Gamini Senarath Yapa, a spokesman for the SLBFE in the media, said there is currently no threat to the safety of Sri Lankans living in Israel.
Speaking to the media today, he said that due to the rising tensions with Palestine, steps are being made to safeguard the safety of Sri Lankans living in Israel.
32 Sri Lankans are now detained in Israel, according to Gamini Senarath Yapa.
He gave an update on the Yatawara Bandara, a missing Sri Lankan man, saying that efforts are being made to learn more about him.
In collaboration with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel, steps are being made. In the event that a body needs to be identified, we could need to collect the DNA of a Bandara relative,” he stated.
