This morning (November 1), the 15th Population and Housing Census, which is carried out every ten years, got underway at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
As a result, the Presidential Secretariat was noted in this decennial census as the first building.
This year’s census is notable for using tablet computers for data collecting in addition to standard printed papers.
This is the first time in more than 150 years that a census has used this kind of technology.
The Department of Census and Statistics states that in 2024, the enumeration phase will take place after the listing phase, which is presently underway.
