Special commodity levy on sugar increased to Rs. 50

The Ministry of Finance has issued a government notification raising the Special Commodity Levy on imported sugar to Rs. 50 per kilogramme.

As a result, the amended levy will be effective as of today, 02, and will remain in force for a year, ending on 02 November 2024.

By virtue of the authority granted to him by Section 2 of the Special Commodity Levy Act No. 48 of 2007, President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilisation, and National Policies, has issued the pertinent government notification.

As a result, the current Special Commodity Levy, which was set at 25 cents per kilogramme, has been raised to 50 rupees.
