The seven-member Interim Committee for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the appropriate gazette notification issued by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe in this regard are not allowed to operate, according to a 14-day stay order imposed by the Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal made this ruling after taking into account a petition that SLC Chairman Shammi Silva had submitted today (07).
Arjuna Ranatunga, a former captain of Sri Lanka who won the World Cup, is the chair of the seven-member Interim Committee for Sri Lanka Cricket, which was established by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe on Monday, June 6.
With the power bestowed upon him by Sports Law No. 25 of 1973, the legislator established the interim Sri Lanka Cricket committee, which would take effect on Monday and replace the outgoing board, as revealed by the Sports Ministry.
The following individuals make up the interim committee: Upali Dharmadasa, attorney-at-law Rakitha Rajapakshe, retired Supreme Court judge S. I. Imam, retired Supreme Court judge Rohini Marasinghe, retired High Court judge Irangani Perera, and Hisham Jamaldeen. Arjuna Ranatunga serves as chairperson.
Later on, though, it was revealed that neither the appointment of this committee nor the makeup of its members had been communicated to President Ranil Wickremesinghe. According to internal sources, the President was unaware of the establishment of this temporary committee for SLC until reading about it in the media.
It was also stated that President Wickremesinghe had made multiple unsuccessful attempts to get in touch with Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe to ask about this.
