According to Globes, Israel business news, Israel and Sri Lanka have inked an agreement that will enable Israel to hire 10,000 farm workers from Sri Lanka immediately.

As a result, Nimal Bandaranaike, the ambassador of Sri Lanka to Israel, and Moshe Arbel, the interior minister of Israel, have signed the agreement.

Within the parameters of this agreement, the first Sri Lankan agricultural labourers ought to show up in the upcoming weeks.

Currently, Israel employs 4,500 Sri Lankans, the majority of them are in the homecare industry.

The new arrangement comes after the cabinet gave its permission last week, enabling Israeli businesses to hire 5,000 workers for the agriculture industry in Israel.

The war has had a severe impact on Israel’s agriculture industry. Out of the 30,000 foreign workers in the farming sector, some 8,000 have left Israel since October 7.

In the October 7 raid, numerous foreign labourers lost their lives at the hands of Hamas militants, and another number were captured in Gaza.

Approximately twenty thousand Palestinian agricultural labourers have been prohibited from entering the nation at the same time.
