Just now, on November 8, the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill was approved by the legislature.

On July 19, the Bill was first passed with modifications and without a vote. But later on, it was removed because it didn’t align with Sri Lanka’s Constitution.

When the Bill was first introduced, it caused a lot of controversy since a number of groups, notably Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL), had pointed out important issues with the Bill’s provisions, claiming that some of them were “unconstitutional.”
