The Department of Irrigation declared that the flood warning that was issued for the Nilwala River basin on October 23, 2023, has been extended for the following twenty-four hours.
As such, those who live there and drivers who pass through such locations are asked to exercise extreme caution in this regard. It is asked that the Disaster Management Authorities take appropriate measures in this regard in the meantime.
For the low-lying sections of the Nilwala River valley in the divisional secretariat divisions of Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akuressa, Pasgoda, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Thihagoda, Matara, and Devinuwara, the Irrigation Department issued a “Amber” flood warning on October 23.
The Nilwala River valley’s low-lying districts in the DS Divisions of Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akuressa, Pasgoda, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Thihagoda, Matara, and Devinuwara may see significant flooding, it was told.
