Indrika Ratwatte appointed UN Deputy Special Representative, Resident Coordinator for Afghanistan

Indrika Ratwatte of Sri Lanka has been appointed as the new Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and Resident Coordinator in Afghanistan, according to a statement made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday, November 7.

As per a UN media release, he will further function as the Humanitarian Coordinator.

“Mr. Ratwatte takes over for Azerbaijan’s Ramiz Alakbarov, for whose devoted service the Secretary-General expresses gratitude. Additionally, Daniel Endres’ work as an ad hoc Deputy Special Representative, Resident, and Humanitarian Coordinator is acknowledged by the Secretary-General.
