The duty of looking into the Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe’s Gazette announcement designating an Interim Committee for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and its upcoming operations fell to the Cabinet subcommittee. Minister Kanchana Wijesekara, one of the committee’s four members, asserts that the committee has no authority over the selection of the administration or the national team.
The minister further stressed that any suspension on SLC that the International Cricket Council (ICC) might decide to impose as a result of the motions that were presented in Parliament should be overseen by the 225 members of the parliament.
Wijesekara made these comments during the ongoing parliamentary discussion over the situation of Sri Lankan cricket.
