This morning (Nov. 09), the body of Sujith Bandara Yatawara, a Sri Lankan national who was slain in the Israel-Hamas conflict, was delivered to the island.

Yatawara was subsequently declared dead in Israel, despite early suspicions that he was being held captive by the Palestinian militant organisation Hamas.

Since October 07, when Hamas militants launched an unprecedented offensive on neighbouring Israeli cities from the blockaded Gaza Strip, he had been missing. The DNA samples that Bandara’s children had provided were then transported to Israel for additional research.

Yatawara, a Wennappuwa native, had gone to Israel in 2015 in search of employment.
