Today, November 14, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) declared its intention to expand the e-billing system’s reach to include five additional areas.
As a result, CEB customers who live in the areas of Dehiwala, Kelaniya, Sri Jayewardenepura, Matara, and Ambalangoda would only receive digital versions of their electricity bills by email or SMS.
The state-owned utility said in a statement that “this marks the discontinuation of the conventional practise of issuing printed paper bills.”
Since printed paper bills will no longer be issued in the upcoming months, the CEB is urging all of its clients nationally to swiftly sign up for this useful service.
• Registration via SMS: Type REGfollowed by the A/C Number and send it to 1987
• Online registration: Visit http://ebill.ceb.lk and follow the instructions
According to the CEB, this programme should save over 100 million paper sheets a year.
“We invite all of our customers to join us in embracing this digital transformation and utilising the CEB’s digital services ahead of the mandatory rollout, given the significant environmental impact.”
