Advisory issued as low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal intensifies

Today, November 15, the Meteorological Department issued a warning for heavy winds and choppy seas over the Bay of Bengal.

According to the advisory, around 8:30 a.m. today (Nov. 15), a depression was located over the West Central Bay of Bengal, close to latitude 14.5°N and longitude 86.8°E. The low-pressure system over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which borders Andaman and Nicobar Island, has intensified into one.

It is expected to deepen into a deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal Sea area tomorrow morning as it moves north and northwest.

Consequently, the wind speed in sea areas between 10N and 19N and between 82E and 90E will be 40–45 kmph, with the potential to reach 50–60 kmph.

In the meantime, the aforementioned marine locations should also be prepared for strong showers or thunderstorms as well as choppy or extremely choppy waves.
