According to State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe, 1.8% annual economic growth is predicted for 2024.

During a news briefing held on Tuesday, November 14, at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC), the legislator emphasised that the government is dedicated to promoting a strong economy during this time.

He added, “As part of this overarching objective, a special emphasis will be placed on the advancement of small and medium enterprises.”

The state minister went on to say that the requirements of government workers and low-income and vulnerable families are given special attention in the newly unveiled budget for the coming year. Additionally, encouraging small and medium-sized businesses has received particular attention.

During the conversation, Semasinghe shared further perspectives. He pointed out that the fiscal year 2023 budget, which was revealed after President Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed to the position of Minister of Finance, is among the strongest in the country’s history.

Given the severe economic crisis that persisted until 2022, presenting a budget in 2023 was particularly difficult under these circumstances.

Nevertheless, the administration stepped up to the plate and took on this enormous challenge, led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Building on the stability that has been attained, the administration is currently effectively carrying out the 2024 programme, advancing the desired economic goals.
