Starting today, November 17, the 165MW Kelanitissa Combined Cycle Power Station will be closed for planned maintenance on both its steam and gas turbines.

As a result, the power plant that runs on naphtha will undergo six weeks of maintenance, according to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

Concurrently, the Lakvijaya Power Plant’s Unit 2 generator in Norochcholai will likewise be unavailable starting tonight due to an emergency malfunction with its high-pressure heater system.

After completing the planned significant overhaul maintenance work, Unit 3 of the Norochcholai power plant—which has been inactive since June 2023—is currently going through a test run.

The CEB stated that as a result, it is anticipated that this generating unit will be linked to the national grid as soon as feasible.
