A meeting was held at the Sri Lanka Islamic Center in Colombo last Thursday (16) between Muslim community organizations operating in various platforms for the first time.
This historic meeting was organized by Asseyyed Salim Rifai Maulana, Chairman of Pahana Media and MEEDS Projects, Asseyyed Dr. Hassan Maulana Al-Qadiri, Member of the United Nations Council of Peace Ambassadors and Co-Chair of the Muslim Affairs of Interfaith Federation for National Unity, Ash-Abdul Mujeeb Gafoori, Managing Director of Pahana Media, and some others.
In this event, Ash. Arqam Nooramith, General Secretary of All Ceylon Jamiatul Ulama, N.M. Ameen, Chairman of Muslim Council of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum, Asseyyed Nakeeb Maulana, Chairman of the Supreme Council of All ceylon Sufi Tariqas (SCOT), Tabligh Jamaat member Ash-Abdul Hamid Mahdi, Desamanya Dr.Maulavi Hasbullah Abdul Qadir Bahji, Chairman of Sri Lanka Sharia Council, Ustaz Ash.Uzair Islahi, Ameer Sri Lanka Jamaate Islami, Ash- Siraj Najahi, General Secretary All Ceylon Sunnath Jamaat Majalisul Ulama, Ash. Azad Abdul Mueed, President Salama, Ash-Abdullah Noori, President of All Ceylon Sufi Spiritual Council, Sham Nawaz, National President of All Ceylon Union of Muslim League Youth Fronts, Ibrahim Ansar, President of Hajj Committee, Shibli Hashim, President of Boralla Ahadiya Islamic Education Center, Tahir Razeen, President of Colombo Grand Mosque, Maulavi Abdul Jabbar, President of Sri Lankan Khateeb Muazzin Association, Ash-Zarook, Director of Sri Lanka Islamic Center, Prof. Intikab Zufar, General Secretary of Assunna Trust, Ash-Tajul Munir Qadiri Atthari, Advisor Da’wathe Islami, Mahin Doole,former Deputy Inspector (D.I.G) from the Malay community and members of some of the above organizations, representatives of All Ceylon YMMA, MEEDS, Mishkath, Waqf Board and Editor-in-Chief of NewsNow website Fiyaz Mohamed, Dr. Zaneek and many others participated in the event.
All Ceylon Masjid Federation, National Shoora Council and United Thowheed Jamaat, which were unable to attend the program on that day, had announced that they are ready to participate in future meetings and contribute.
Many people who participated in the event have commented on the need of Muslim Unity to strengthen national unity. It was also decided during this meeting that in future, the issues common to all communities will be discussed one by one and presented with one voice to the appropriate places.
