During the inaugural parliamentary session of 2024 at 09:30 a.m. today (09 Jan.), Chaminda Wijesiri, Member of Parliament for Badulla District under the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), formally submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker of Parliament.
Meanwhile, all SJB MPs, including Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, were seen clad in black during this morning’s parliamentary session, reportedly in protest of the government’s move to increase the Value Added Tax (VAT) to 18%.
