Showery conditions expected

Prevailing showery conditions are expected to ease off in the Northern, North-central, Uva and Eastern provinces after today (Jan.11).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Eastern and Uva provinces and Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm are likely at some places in Uva province and Polonnaruwa and Matale districts.

Several spells of showers may occur in Northern province and Anuradhapura district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Galle and Matara districts after 1:00 p.m.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Batticaloa via Hambantota and Pottuvil. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island.

Winds will be easterly or north-easterly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph.

Wind speed may increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankesanturai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Batticaloa via Hambantota and Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankesanturai via Puttalam and Mannar and in Galle to Batticaloa via Hambantota and Pottuvil can be rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
