The Parliament has formally informed the Election Commission of the vacant MP seat following the tragic death of State Minister Sanath Nishantha.
The notification was made in accordance with the Parliamentary Elections Act. State Minister Nishantha, representing the Puttalam constituency, was killed in a fatal accident on the Colombo-Katunayake expressway.
The Parliament conveyed the information to the Election Commission on Friday, noting the vacancy created by the untimely demise of the 48-year-old lawmaker.
