Government Increases Allowances for Senior Citizens, Persons with Disabilities, and Kidney Patients

The government has announced a significant increase in monthly allowances for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and kidney patients.

State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe confirmed that the monthly allowance for kidney patients and persons with disabilities will rise from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 7,500, while the senior citizen allowance will increase from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000. These adjustments are effective from January of this year.

Additionally, State Minister Semasinghe stated that recipients of the ‘Aswesuma’ Welfare Benefit within these categories will see the increment starting from April 01, 2024.
