The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced plans to take legal action against 232 bakery and shop owners for selling loaves of bread with substandard weights and failing to display prices.

This decision comes after the CAA published an Extraordinary Gazette on February 2, establishing standard weights for bread products.

According to the Gazette, a loaf of bread should weigh 450g with a permissible deficiency of 13.5g, while half a loaf should weigh 225g with a 9g deficiency.

The Gazette emphasized that all bread sold must adhere to these standards and that vendors must display the weight of bread for sale.

In response, the CAA conducted island-wide raids to identify non-compliant vendors.

The crackdown aims to ensure consumer protection and uphold standards in the bread industry.
